Grapes are propagated in various ways. The most popular are propagation by cuttings and layering. Cuttings are taken from an annual ripened vine. Layers - shoots, allotted and rooted from the mother plant. Those and others as a result give seedlings that are highly survival and quickly begin to bear fruit.
Propagation by cuttings
Cuttings for grapes harvested in the fall. They are cut from the annual shoot of the mother creeper, 30-40 cm long and stored in a dig (this can be a box of sand) in a cool room at 0
.+ 2 ° C. In the fall, a plot is being prepared for growing cuttings. On it, the cuttings will be arranged in rows at a distance of 20 cm and 12 cm between the cuttings. The site is dug up and seasoned with organic fertilizers.
In spring (late March), cuttings are removed from the digging site, the lower ends are cut to the first knot, and the top is 4 cm higher than the third kidney. Then they are soaked for two days in warm water (preferably rain). At this time, the landing site is preparing. At the site of future rows of cuttings, trenches are made in the soil, which are fertilized with humus and spilled with hot water. Then a little soil is poured into the bottom of the trench and cuttings are planted, deepening by one third.
Plantings are covered with soil, watered and covered with a film. It is advisable not to remove the film until autumn, but when buds open on accepted cuttings, a hole is cut above each in the film. If the cuttings are not well rooted in the fall, they can be left in this state until spring, covered with earth or sand and covered with straw. In the case of successful rooting and the formation of full-fledged seedlings, they are planted in September in a permanent place.
Green cuttings
Some gardeners grow grapes from green cuttings. Such cuttings are cut from green shoots at any time of the growing season. They should be with two eyes and one top sheet. Such cuttings are grown at home, in a box with soil from compost, sand and peat 1: 1: 1. Before planting, half of the leaf is cut off and the cuttings are soaked for 24 hours in water. Then, with a sharp knife, the lower cut is obliquely made and the cuttings are immediately planted to a depth of 3 cm. The cuttings are watered with a potassium permanganate solution and covered with a film.
Receive layering
To obtain layering, a ripened vine or shoot of the uterine bush in spring bends and fits into a shallow groove dug from the base of the vine to the length of the shoot. The shoot is pinned with arches, covered with earth, watered with a potassium permanganate solution and mulched with humus by 5 cm. During the growing season, branches with shoots and roots are formed from each node on the shoot. Layers are carefully excavated in the fall, divided by internodes and planted in a permanent place or placed in a cold basement until spring planting.
