In order to always have fresh eggs and meat in the house, it is worth keeping chickens in the homestead. A cage for chickens takes up little space and brings a steady income; a two-tier cage can contain up to 14 layers per 1 square meter of usable area. Try to build a chicken cage yourself.

Make a drawing of the chicken cage. Note that the cell for one chicken should have approximately the following dimensions: width 610 mm, length 525 mm, height 520 mm. In addition, there should be a margin for the pallet between the upper and lower row of cells. Arrange several such cells in a row, make two levels. Add a few centimeters to the bottom of the legs (the cage should not stand directly on the floor). Calculate the total length and height of the cell.

From the metal corner 40x40x5 or 50x50x5, cut out the details: four vertical posts, six horizontal long bars and six short ones. Weld the skeleton of the cell from the obtained parts of the corners. Check the stability and reliability of the structure, if the cage is very long, in the center, strengthen the structure with another pair of uprights.

Half cells make a galvanized welded wire mesh with a small mesh size. It is very important to make the floor at a slope of 6 °, so that the laid eggs roll away from under the chicken. At the same time, such a slight bias will prevent chickens from feeling uncomfortable. Make a slope towards the front of the cage. At the bottom for eggs from the net, equip a shelf that provides safe and convenient storage for eggs.

Make a galvanized steel sheet feeder above the egg shelf. Cut a strip 30 cm wide and the length corresponding to the length of the cage. Bend it this way: at a distance of 8 cm, make a deflection of 95⁰, set aside another 5 cm and bend again, at about 100⁰. Bend the long end with a hook, it will be hooked on the front edge of the cage.

Separate the cells with a horizontal grid of welded rods. Place a galvanized iron tray on this grid. Thus, the chicken, being on an inclined floor from the net, will always be clean, since waste products directly go to the pallet.

Make the back wall of a homemade chicken cage from plywood or a metal sheet. The front wall is made of wide rods, bent so that the chicken can freely take food from the feeder. Do not forget about individual doors for each cell, equip them with hooks or latches.

Equip the bird cage with a cage. Place a container of water on the lid of the cage, connect a hose to the bottom and conduct water to each cell. To ensure that water, having reached a certain level, stops flowing, use a toilet float or other similar mechanism. If you were unable to make a homemade drinker, buy a finished one in the store.
