A voltmeter is an electrical measuring device that is used to determine the voltage on any part of the circuit and the two poles of its source. Many people know about voltmeters since school, but few people know how to use them - despite the fact that this is a fairly simple task.
All about the voltmeter
Externally, voltmeters resemble ammeters. They are connected in parallel to a source of electricity and allow you to measure the voltage in electrical circuits using a direct reference. In an ideal voltmeter, infinite internal resistance should be present, since the higher it is, the less the voltmeter will affect the object it measures - therefore, the more accurate the indicators and the more diverse the field of its application.
The use of a voltmeter, despite its similarity to an ammeter, is somewhat different from using the ammeter itself.
Voltmeters are divided according to the principle of action on electromechanical and electronic devices. The group of electromechanical voltmeters includes electrodynamic, electromagnetic and magnetoelectric devices, and the group of electronic includes digital and analog voltmeters. By purpose, voltmeters are pulsed, selective, phase-sensitive, selective, as well as for measuring AC and DC current. The design and method of using voltmeters divides them into portable, panel-mounted and stationary devices.
