The passage switch differs from a conventional switch in the presence of a third contact and acts as a switch. Typically, a through switch is used in conjunction with another switch. The circuit breaker connection diagram is not complicated and anyone can assemble it.

The main advantage of such a switch is the ability to turn on and off the light from different places. It is very comfortable to use them in long corridors, on stairs in two-story houses and in bedrooms.

For example, in the corridor with a conventional switch, in order to turn off the light, you must again return to the same switch. If two passage switches are installed in the corridor, then the convenience of controlling the light increases. When entering the corridor, press the switch button and turn on the light. After passing through the corridor, you need to turn off the light, for this we press the key of another pass-through switch at the end of the corridor and the light goes out. The same can be done if you pass this room in the opposite direction.

On the stairs in private houses, one pass-through switch is installed on the first floor, and the second on the second floor. Thus, you can turn on and off the light from any switch.

In the bedroom, one switch is installed near the door, and the other near the bed, which allows you to control the light from a lying position.

The operating principle of the passage switch is very simple. Such switches act as switches. That is, the switch directs electricity from one contact to another contact. The switches are used in pairs and are connected as follows.

Installation of passage switches is no different from the installation of a conventional switch. They are installed in the same mounting boxes and wires of the same cross section are used. Three wires are connected to each switch. Depending on the convenience of wiring, you can connect the switches in two ways.

The first option is as follows - all connections are made in a junction box. That is, four cables are suitable for the box. Voltage supply cable, cable from the lamp and two cables from the passage switches. The wires are stripped of insulation and connected according to the scheme in accordance with the rules for electrical installation.

The second installation option is when two walk-through switches are interconnected by a three-core cable. In this case, it is not necessary to lead the cable to the junction box from one switch. The wire connection is performed in the box of one of the switches.

The mounting option affects the amount of work performed and the consumption of the installation wire. If the junction box is between two switches, then all connections are made in the box. When the box is located near one of the switches, it is more expedient not to lead the wire into the box, but to lay it to the first switch and make a connection in it. This way you can save a few meters of wire and reduce the amount of work.

Before carrying out electrical work, disconnect the supply voltage. Observe safety precautions and use personal protective equipment against electric shock.
