Folk or factory silver cleaning products - what to choose
Dozens of silver cleaning products can be found in stores. But not all of them are highly efficient and do not harm the surface of the metal. Therefore, factory liquids and pastes are clearly inferior to folk remedies.
Silver cleaning
Before starting to clean the silver product, it must be degreased. Some try to make it acetone, which is harmful to the metal. Fat is removed using a warm soapy solution. In it you need to soak the silver for 5-10 minutes. After this, the silver must be rinsed with running water, then wiped with a soft cloth.
Toothbrushing powder
This tool is able to cope with darkening of any complexity. Tooth powder is applied to wet tissue. Careful rubbing means can quickly bring the metal in order.
Lemon acid
This tool is well suited for cutlery and items that do not have stones. 50 g of citric acid should be dissolved in 250 ml of water and bring to a boil. Once the liquid has cooled, silver can be immersed in it. After 30 minutes, the product will need to be removed and rubbed with a dry cloth. Once all the blackness is gone, you can rinse the metal in water, then dry it with paper towels.
Ammonia
It is necessary to dilute 10 ml of ammonia with 120 ml of water. It is required to leave silver in a liquid composition for 30 minutes. After this, you need to rinse the product in running water and dry it.
If the silver is very old and very black, it can be poured with pure ammonia. The product must not be left in an aggressive solution for more than 5 minutes.
Vinegar 9%
Table vinegar is also able to restore silver to its former appearance. It is important to consider that vinegar essence will not work. She has too saturated, aggressive composition. The silver product must be put in a deep container and pour vinegar. After 1 hour, you can drain the product and rinse the jewelry.
Boiling
The blackness that occurs on silver is afraid of boiling. But just putting the product in boiling water is not enough. In 500 ml of water you need to add 10 g of soda and rock salt. It will not be superfluous to enrich the composition with five drops of Fairy. Silver is dipped in this mixture. The liquid is brought to a boil. Blackened products must remain in the container with the composition until it cools down.
This method is only suitable for pure silver. If the products contain other metals or stones, you will have to look for a more gentle cleaning option.
