Cast-iron grates of gas stoves are one of the most “problematic” places in the kitchen. A layer of caked fat quickly “builds up” on them, and in order to get rid of it, you will have to work hard - or resort to the help of modern household appliances.

Appliances work for us: dishwasher and steam generator

If the house has a dishwasher, and the grill is disassembled into parts - the fight against fat deposits does not require much effort from the hostess. One cycle in intensive mode is enough to ensure that the grill regains its pristine purity. If body fat accumulated over several months, the dishwasher will most likely not be able to deal with it right away. In this case, after the end of the first cycle, without waiting for the end of drying, you can remove the grates from the dishwasher and process them manually: lightened and softened fat layers can be easily removed with a knife or a stiff brush. You can do without "manual work", but then for a complete cleaning of the grates, one or two washing cycles will be needed.

A household steam generator can also help clean up impurities from the grate of a gas stove. Steam has a temperature of about 140 ° C, and this is enough to remove carbon deposits and greasy deposits from the cast-iron surface. A small round nozzle with a stiff bristle is usually used to clean the grates, however, it is not always possible to get to hard-to-reach places, so dirt can remain in the corners. But cleaning the stove in this case occurs without the use of any household chemicals.

Soaking grate cleaning

To save your own strength, it is better to soak the dirt before cleaning in a detergent solution before cleaning. This can be done in an enamel bath or a large basin. Dissolve a fat combating agent in very hot water (you can use cleaning agents for stoves and ovens, gels for kitchen surfaces, dishwashing liquid, or any other alkaline product). You can use ordinary soda. Immerse the grates in the solution for several hours.

Alkali dissolves fat, and softened deposits will be much better cleaned from cast iron. Before washing, you can again apply a cleaning agent (already undiluted) to the grate and leave it for 10-15 minutes for exposure.

For cleaning the grate, it is better to use not sponges (they are very quickly erased on cast iron), but a stiff brush or metal washcloth. Corners and hard to reach places can be processed with an old toothbrush.

Soak-free cleaning

If the lattice is one-piece and it is impossible to immerse it in water, you will have to do without soaking. In this case, you will have to use more aggressive detergents. As a rule, special sprays for cleaning ovens and products marked “Anti-grease” are used to clean contaminated grates.

Moisten the grate with water, treat with a product, leave to act for 10-15 minutes, then carefully brush it. With severe contamination, this procedure will have to be repeated several times.

note

If you clean the grate without removing it from the stove, cover the surface of the stove with foil, then dirt and cleaning agent will not get into the nozzle.

Even if you use a mild detergent to clean the racks, wear rubber gloves. Cleaning the grids is a dirty job, in addition, the risk of scratching your hands or breaking your nails is quite high.

Before cleaning, you can calcine the most contaminated places over a fire to burn off fat deposits.
