An indispensable attribute of the Russian tea ceremony is considered to be a samovar. Urban residents use electric samovars, which are easy to wash. But here is a real country samovar, for the kindling of which coal, wood chips or cones are used, it is quite difficult to clean it from soot.

- - dentifrice;
- - 10% ammonia;

- - alcohol, turpentine or methylated spirits;

- - cleaning powder.

From literary sources it is known that before samovars were cleaned with beaten bricks. Today, it is completely replaced by some abrasive powder used to clean sinks and boards. To clean the samovar from soot, apply the powder on the hard side of the dishwashing sponge and rub the surface well in circular motions. Rinse off the powder with water.

In the household or in a specialized "samovar" store, buy a tool for cleaning metal surfaces. As a rule, they are packaged in spray guns and after application it will be necessary to wait a few minutes for the dirt and soot to dissolve. After that, wash the samovar with a sponge with dishwashing detergent on it and wipe it with a dry linen cloth.

If you are the owner of an old samovar, for the manufacture of which bronze, cupronickel, brass, nickel, chrome, gold or silver were used, then it is better not to use abrasive powders to clean it to keep the coating shiny. You will need a product containing finely divided substances: chalk, silica gel, diatomite, as well as organic solvents, wax, ammonia.

Treat the chrome or nickel surface with powder chalk applied on a cloth, wash with warm water and soap. Wipe the gilded samovar with a soft cloth dipped in alcohol, turpentine or methylated spirit.

Polish the shiny sides of the samovar with a solution of water, tooth powder and 10% ammonia. Dilute it in a ratio of 3: 1: 2. Apply this mixture on a soft rag, preferably velveteen or velvet. Of course, I’ll have to work hard, but your samovar will be like new.
