Bleaching a sneaker with a hand wash takes longer than a machine wash. But the first method is safer both for the canvas fabric from which traditional sneakers are made, and for the drum of the machine. Therefore, in order to avoid problems with equipment or shoes, use the manual method of whitening sneakers.

Only clean sneakers can be bleached. Put a drop of liquid soap or shampoo on an old toothbrush with soft bristles and wipe the surface of the sneakers, then rinse them thoroughly with non-hot water. Do not use laundry detergent or laundry soap, as there will be even more yellow stains and dull spots. Dry sneakers well in the air in an upright position.

Then lightly moisten a sponge or soft cloth with water, apply a small amount of toothpaste on it without colored stripes and splashes. Rub the paste into the dull surface of the sneaker, and then remove the excess with a dry sponge or the clean side of the rag. This method can be called traditional, since it was used several decades ago, however, instead of pasta, sneakers were cleaned with tooth powder. By the way, with paste or powder you can bleach not only the fabric surface of the sneaker, but also a yellowed sole with a toe.

A more modern way to whiten faded sneakers is to use shoe polish. It can be found in any specialized shoe store in which, among other things, sneakers are also sold. The advantages of such whitening are that it is economical and simple, the disadvantages are small cash costs. Apply bleach only on clean shoes. Since shoe paint is available in different consistencies (spray, cream), there is no universal way to use it. Therefore, carefully read the instructions or consult with the seller.
Useful advice
To keep the sneakers white for as long as possible, after each wear wipe them with a slightly damp cloth without the use of chemicals. Want to extend the life of white shoes? Save it for warm sunny days and do not wear it during bad weather.
