Sometimes it is impossible to find a suitable color for knitting yarn or its natural color does not suit. Sweaters, sweaters, mittens can be knitted from home wool, but all products will have a dull, uniform color. To make things bright, you can dye yarn in rich colors.

Instruction manual

1

Prepare the dye solution

You need to know the weight of the yarn in order to calculate the amount of dye needed to obtain the desired color. Weigh dry yarn and, as instructed, stock up on everything you need. To dissolve the dye, rub it in a small amount of warm water. Dilute the thick mass to 0.5 liters, mix and strain through a fine sieve or several layers of gauze. Pour everything into an enameled pan with warm water (50 degrees), add 2 tablespoons of table salt and mix thoroughly.

2

Prepare the threads for dyeing

If you have a lot of wool, divide it into skeins of 100-120 grams. To prevent them from tangling up, loosely band them in several places with a thick cotton thread and wash them in foamy soapy water. Wash gently: do not rub or twist yarn. Rinse in warm water and dry.

3

Prepare yarn for dyeing.

Assemble it on a sturdy, non-synthetic cord or hang it at intervals on a wooden stick. Put clean yarn in hot water for half an hour, and then lower it in a dyeing solution for 10 minutes, warming it to 70 - 80 degrees. Lift the cord with wool from the water, add 1 tablespoon of vinegar essence to the pan and again immerse the yarn in the solution.

4

Heat the solution to 100 degrees. To dye the yarn evenly, constantly move the skeins and twist the cord itself over the next 20 minutes. After the time has elapsed, lift the cord with the wool out of the water again. Pour 1 tablespoon of vinegar essence into the pan, mix and lower the skeins again. By constantly moving and turning the cord, keep it in boiling water for 20-30 minutes. After that, put the pan off the heat and wait for the dye solution to lighten.

5

If you do not like the color depth or the coat is unevenly colored, treat it in a fresh solution. Fill the pan with hot water, add vinegar essence, as if dyeing, and boil your yarn in it. Rinse the threads in warm water, dry on a wooden stick and wind them in balls.

6

Dye the yarn in halftone

To do this, prepare a dye solution, as with uniform coloring. Roll dry yarn into loose balls and dip into dyeing solution. Subject to the time and temperature conditions, the original combinations of shades of the same color will appear on the threads.

note

Do not dye yarn in one color in several batches.

Useful advice

The volume of the dyeing solution should be 20 times greater than the weight of the yarn. If there is no such capacity, you can use a cord or a wooden stick. Try the quality of the dye on a small amount of yarn (30 g).
