People living in the "Khrushchev" and "Stalin", in houses whose age is tens of years, sooner or later will be faced with the need for repairs. When it comes to painting doors and window frames, we are faced with the task: "How to remove old paint." Doors and windows were repainted many times and lost their former appeal. So the time has come to get rid of the ugly and uneven layers of the old yellowed paint and put the surfaces in order. There are two main methods of chemical and thermal paint removal. Each of these methods is used depending on the area, shape and location of the treated surface.

1

Chemical way.

This method is suitable for treating large surfaces and is used when speed is important. You will need paint removers. There are a huge amount of these washes on sale and you will certainly pick yourself something suitable. Be sure to consider the location of the surface to be treated. If the vertical surface is not worth buying liquid washes, pay attention to the means in the form of paste and gel. Such washes do not drain from the surface, providing an optimal result. Be careful when working with chemicals. Do not neglect safety requirements. These fluids are quite toxic, so wear protective equipment: rubber gloves, safety glasses, and respirators. In general, chemistry is preferably used outdoors, or in a very well-ventilated area.

2

The thermal method is more gentle both for you and for the treated surface. It is better, cheaper, but more labor intensive. For this method, you will need a building hair dryer, or as it is also called a “heat gun”. You can buy it at a store selling power tools. When working with a thermal gun there are subtleties that you will master yourself in the process. But something to advise will not be superfluous. The paint begins to melt at a temperature of about 100 degrees. Do not overheat the surface strongly. Otherwise, the paint will begin to boil and stick even harder. To remove softened paint, use a spatula, and in difficult places with a chisel or knife. Use the tool with handles made of heat-resistant material. Hot paint that gets on exposed skin can cause burns, so use gloves. Do not work for a long time in an enclosed space, hot paint emits harmful substances, often ventilate the room.

3

After chemical and thermal removal on the surface, there will still remain areas requiring additional processing. Here sandpaper will come to the rescue. First, use a coarser skin, gradually changing it to a smaller one. To speed up the process, you can use a grinding machine.

Useful advice

Instead of a building hair dryer, you can use alternative fixtures. For example, an old iron or blowtorch. Use the latter only on the street and away from combustible, and even more explosive substances.
