Sooner or later, many housewives face the question of how to update an old warm blanket. One needs to change the coating, the other to fix the insulation. But how to do it right, and with the least material cost?

Start by ripping open the old stitch. Do this carefully, taking care not to cut through the fabric (especially carefully do this work if the material has not been carried and can be used again). Then spread the blanket along the long side, remove the insulation (cotton, batting, wool, artificial fluffy fiber) from the cover, roll it up, wrap it in paper and set it aside.

Now take care of the case. Turn it inside out, thoroughly clean from pieces of cotton wool and dust, wash. If the blanket cover consists of two contrasting color panels, then cover the cover from all sides and wash each part separately. Now, having dried and ironed the fabric, get to work in the reverse order: stitch the cover on three sides, and then tidy up the insulation. To do this, spread it on the floor and inspect which areas need to be repaired. Place cotton or batting on worn-out areas, or gently fluff those areas where thickenings have formed, and redistribute the excess wool (wool) to the place where the insulation has become thin. At the same time, try not to violate the size of the cotton cover.

When the insulation is ready, put on a cover on it as you put a pillowcase on the pillow. Spread the inside of the blanket and stitch the last side. It remains to quilt a blanket.

If you have a sewing machine with a special quilting foot, no problems. You can sew a blanket in stripes and in a cage without lining it. If there is no such device, you need to outline the top of the blanket with chalk or a finely honed remnant and scribble it on the typewriter. You will have to scribble along the marking even if you want to quilt the blanket with some complicated pattern. The most intricate patterns are drawn on paper, pin and sweep to the top of the cover, designating the contours of the picture with small stitches "forward needle". After removing the paper, run along the marked lines.

But what about those who do not have a sewing machine? In this case, this work is performed manually. Take a darn needle and tie a large knot into a strong thread that has been put into it. From top to bottom, pierce the blanket through, pull out the needle and thread below, and return it up to almost the same point again. Fasten the thread by tying it several times around the previous large knot, and cut this knot. And then quilt the entire blanket with a “forward needle” stitch.
