To firmly glue a plastic product, you must first establish what material it is made of. Each of them has its own recovery method. But you can use glue, which well connects most plastics.
Before proceeding with the restoration of the product, you need to try to establish what type of plastic it is made of. The fact is that some of its types, such as ftoroplast (teflon), various modern polyurethanes are practically impossible to glue.
How to glue thermosetting plastic
Most of the products that surround a person in everyday life are made from this material. These are sockets and switches, details of alarm clocks and radios, decor elements and other products. Thermoplastics include plexiglass (plexiglass), polyvinyl chloride, polystyrene. The peculiarity of these plastics is that they are fluid in the preheated state. To make sure that the product is made of thermoplastic, you need to lightly touch it with a hot soldering iron.
You can glue such plastic with bakelite varnish. The surface of the parts is first degreased with gasoline, then a binder is applied to the ends with a thin layer. After that, the parts to be glued must be firmly fixed with clamps. Next, the product is placed in the oven, heated to a temperature of 80 ° C. Here it should be for 2-3 hours. After some time, the temperature should be started to increase, gradually bringing it to 100 ° C.
Thermoplastics are well recoverable using BF-2 or BF-4 glue. In this case, it is also recommended to place the parts to be glued in the oven. But there is a feature in the application of glue: first, it is applied with a thin layer, then given time to dry (at least an hour), after which the procedure is repeated. When the second layer of binder dries, the parts are compressed with clamps and placed in the oven. If BF-2 was used, then it should be kept for 1 hour at a temperature of 80-100 ° C. If BF-4 - then the product is dried for 2-3 hours at a temperature of 60 ° C.
Another way to glue thermoplastics is to use a viscous substance made from a piece of similar plastic dissolved in a solvent. This method is good for thin-walled products that are undesirable to expose to strong heat. Plexiglass lends itself well to gluing with a solution prepared from finely planed organic glass dissolved in dichloroethane, vinegar or formic acid. After processing the ends of the parts, they should be tightly interconnected and fixed in a vice. After 6-7 hours, the product will be firmly glued.
