For a shelf with plates, select a warm but not hot place. The garage or cottage that you heat once a week is not the best place to store such capricious items. It is better to find a corner for the records in a city apartment, but not next to the steam heating battery. Do not hang the shelf and next to the window.

Select a separate shelf for the plates. Books and soft toys are not the best neighbors, since dust accumulates on them. The plates must be wiped periodically. Select a special cloth for this. Previously, there were special velvet or suede brushes for them, which were sold together with the player and fixed somewhere in the vicinity of the disc on which the record was placed. But if you bought the player with your hands, such a brush may not be there. You can, for example, buy a napkin in an optics store. A cloth for the monitor is also suitable. Select a special box for it and put it on a shelf.

The shelf should be high enough. Choose one where even the largest plate doesn’t just stand upright, but there’s still some space between it and the top plane of the shelf. Never stack plates. Do not allow them to stand obliquely. In this case, those discs that are higher exert uneven pressure on the lower ones. Both those and others are deformed.

For a large collection of records, make a cell inside the shelf. Cut out several rectangles from plywood and attach them so that they form vertical partitions. They can be any size. Their task is to keep the groups of plates in a strictly vertical position. Such partitions can also be used as a classifier, especially if they protrude beyond the edge of the shelf. Make them a plate with a brief description of the plates that are in this cell.

It is important not only to store the plates correctly, but also to be able to get them out of the envelope. It is at this moment that they experience significant mechanical stress. Slide the sides of the envelope and roll out the plate from there. Grab it with your thumb by the edge, and with your middle and forefinger by the hole. Carefully place it on the disc of the player. After listening, do not forget to put the record in the envelope and put it back.
