Silver is a beautiful and popular metal in everyday life; dishes made of it are durable and useful - due to ionization, jewelry is relatively inexpensive and stylish. But silver products tend to darken or fade over time. For many products, this is even a sign of nobility, however, if you are not comfortable with this kind of thing, then silver is quite easy to clean. One common way is cleaning products with baking soda.

You will need

  • - soap solution;

  • - soda solution

  • - a clean cloth.

Instruction manual

1

Before cleaning silver, it is necessary to hold the product in soapy water to prepare the surface for contact with sodium bicarbonate (soda) and then rinse.

2

Prepare a soda solution (for 0.5 l of water 1-2 tablespoons of soda) and put on fire. When the water boils, throw a piece of food foil into the solution. Lower the silver product for 10-15 seconds, after this procedure, rinse.

3

If the product needs to be eliminated from blackness, then some physical effort will have to be applied here. Dilute the soda with water to the consistency of the slurry, apply to a soft cloth or fingers and wipe the product. Be careful not to scratch it.

4

If you need to clean several silver items at once, then use the following recipe: put a sheet of food foil on the bottom of the pan or any other dishes, fix it at the edges. Pour the solution: 0.5 l of hot water, 1-2 tbsp. drinking soda, 1 tablespoon salt. Put silver objects for a few minutes. Rinse and wipe dry.

note

Why does silver lose its appearance? The answer to this question will help to avoid possible errors.

1. High humidity - try to avoid storage of silver items with high humidity (bath, proximity to the stove, etc.).

2. Interaction with perfume, sweat secretions of the owner - try to take a shower, do household chores, removing jewelry.

3. Storage near drugs - contact with the molecules of certain chemicals leads to darkening and tarnishing of silver, avoid this.

4. Often silver reacts to the owner’s state of health - in this case, of course, your health is more important, and not a faded decoration - be healthy!

Useful advice

Silver items do not require complicated care, it is enough to clean them once every one or two months and preferably polish them with a soft dry cloth, suede, and flannel.

If you cannot clean the item yourself, take it to a jewelry workshop.
