When choosing packaging for food, manufacturers are faced with a serious question related to the duration of their storage. Most often, preference is given to polymer vacuum bags. And this is not surprising, because they have barrier properties. In other words, these bags prevent the penetration of atmospheric gases, odors and water vapor.

It is possible to avoid the development of harmful microorganisms, as well as to keep the food product fresh and safe for further consumption, by creating a stable atmosphere inside the package. The best way to create these conditions is hermetic sealing of a package of products in a vacuum. As a result, most of the bacteria will be removed from there, and the rest will not be able to multiply and develop. It turns out that the main factor affecting the shelf life of a product inside a vacuum bag made of polymer materials is its oxygen permeability.

2

The reasons why this type of packaging is used are many. First of all, this is due to the fact that the aforementioned packages isolate products from oxygen, which under normal conditions leads to the oxidation of food. The latter leads to a loss of the taste of food and its nutritional properties. In addition, the lack of oxygen in the package helps to stop the growth of microorganisms, which may be present in small quantities in any food products.

3

During transportation or storage, the products can be saturated with unpleasant odors. Using a vacuum bag prevents this. The package consisting of a multilayer film does not allow moisture to evaporate from the product packaged in it. This means that the latter retains the initial amount of moisture, and this, in turn, is a prerequisite in many cases.

4

Vacuum packaging also protects the contents from the penetration of bacteria, microorganisms, yeast, fungi and mold from the external environment. Another advantage of vacuum bags is that they have a relatively low cost compared to cans and glass jars. In this regard, the price of packages does not affect the cost of goods sold, which means that they are sold better. In addition, much less space is needed for transporting and storing vacuum packaging than for the aforementioned containers. An important point is that on the surface of the multilayer polymer it is possible to apply a higher quality and intaglio printing than on the surface of the paper label of a can or glass can.

5

Vacuum bags are made of environmentally friendly materials. They are not toxic because they do not contain harmful chemicals. This means that their use is completely safe and does not adversely affect the products packaged in them.
