There are two ways to feed an orchid - root and extra root. In the first method, the fertilizer enters the orchid during its irrigation (or rather bathing), and in the second case, the orchid is sprayed with fertilizer. Both methods apply only to adult and healthy plants and only during active growth. If the fertilizer is not applied on time, during the dormant period or before it begins, it is thus possible to stimulate the growth of the plant at the wrong time for it. If the orchid dries, this cannot be the result of not getting enough fertilizer. Sick orchids are not recommended to be fed at all, and especially dry ones. Before feeding the orchid, if it dries up, you need to remove it from the pot and hold it in a bowl with warm, settled water for about an hour. After that, everything that is suitable for life in this orchid will look healthy, and all that has died must be carefully cut.

There are different ways to resuscitate orchids, but none of them includes top dressing. Fertilizer is applied only to the moist substrate of the orchid, which has just been watered and feels good. The semi-dry orchid, which was extracted from the pot, bought, cut from dead roots and planted in a new place, does not belong to the category of healthy plants, although the first time after bathing can look very good. In reality, she will need at least a month to adapt, and only then can she be fed. At the same time, the roots should start to grow well, at least one new leaf and the time for fertilizer should also be suitable. As a rule, orchids cease to fertilize already in the middle of summer, so that the plant calmly finishes blooming and goes to rest. If the orchid is resuscitated after a strong overdrying, then it may not have a rest period this year, but it is not necessary to additionally stimulate it by feeding it.

If you pour water on a dry substrate with fertilizers in a pot, this can leave the orchid without roots, since they simply burn out from a strong dose of fertilizer. Fertilizers for orchids are advised to use half the recommended by the manufacturers standards, and even at this concentration they can be harmful if used without prior watering. You can not spray foliar dressings orchid leaves that begin to turn yellow and wrinkle. From this, they will die even faster, and excess moisture is always dangerous with various types of rot and mold. Yellowing and drying leaves are best removed immediately, lubricating the places of cuts with green, sprinkling with coal powder or cinnamon.
