How to competently make a quality blind area for the garage.

During the construction of a garage, garden house or bath, a blind area is necessary.
The blind area is made in order to protect the foundation from moisture. It allows the lower part of the building not to get wet from rain and snow and prevents subsidence of the structure.
Typically, the blind area is made one and a half meters wide, most often made of concrete.
The procedure for the construction of concrete blind area is as follows:
we dig a trench around the building with the desired width and 15 - 20 cm depth

We level the bottom and water with any herbicide so that weeds do not germinate.
We put a 10 cm layer of sand into the dug trench and tamp. Then pour fine crushed stone on top with the same layer and also carefully ram

Across the blind area, after about one meter, we fix wooden slats impregnated with drying oil, oil or coated with bitumen. We install rails in order to make it easier to level concrete and to protect the blind area from ruptures in winter. If the slats are not installed, the blind area may collapse in the first year.

In the intervals between the slats, we lay concrete and level it with a slight slope from the wall, sprinkle concrete with dry cement several times and level it with a metal trowel. This process (ironing) is needed to strengthen and level the surface.
After ironing, we cover the blind area with wet rags and leave for a week. Periodically, it should be watered with water from a watering can or bucket so that the rags are wet all the time.
In a week, the blind area will be ready.
