A furniture lock is undoubtedly a useful invention that allows you to hide your things from prying eyes and protect them from theft or pampering of children.

Furniture locks are for glass and for wood products, chipboard, plywood, etc. The former do not require drilling and any complex actions on your part. They are easily and quickly mounted on glass doors. To install the second, you need a set of special tools and basic carpentry skills.

The tool required to install a furniture lock: an electric drill, a Forstner drill or a pen drill with a diameter of 20 mm, a screwdriver or a screwdriver (slotted or cross-shaped - it depends on the screws included with your lock), an awl, a pencil, an eraser, a ruler, a small piece of wood Chipboard or plywood.

Installing a furniture lock consists of four operations. The first two of them are the most complex and responsible. This is the marking of the installation site and its drilling. The last two are the fastening of the castle itself and the reciprocal level or corner.

When marking, the width of the square case, the diameter and length of the cylinder of the lock mask should be taken into account. As a rule, its length is equal to the thickness of materials often used in furniture manufacturing - 16-18 mm. The diameter is usually 19 mm. The drilling center for the lock is calculated by adding the radius of the mask (approximately 10 mm) with the distance from the edge of the cylinder of the mask to the edge of the extended tongue of the castle. To this amount should be added a couple of millimeters of allowance for better engagement with the reciprocal angle. We postpone the obtained distance from the edge of the door or drawer at the place of installation of the lock. If the door is external, plus the wall thickness to which it closes.

In the center of drilling we do an awl with a small depression. It will help us better center the drill. Drilling is best done on the front side, and on the back side, firmly attach a piece of wood prepared by us. When the drill leaves the product, material may be chipped. A tightly pressed lining will help to avoid this. We drill at low speeds.

After the hole is made, you can insert a lock into it. Next, with an awl, we outline the places for screwing in the screws. We screw the screws with a screwdriver or screwdriver, fixing the lock on the door or drawer. On the front side we put a decorative ring on the cylinder of the castle mask. Sometimes it takes a little effort to drown the tails of the ring inland. But this should be done carefully, because the ring itself can be soft and deformed.

After installing the lock itself, put the counter corner on a perpendicular surface. At the same time, we take into account the method of installing the door or drawer - external or internal. With the outside, the corner can simply be aligned along the edge, and with the inside - you will have to take into account the thickness of the door on which the lock is installed, plus the possible deepening of this door in a cabinet or table. Next, the procedure is repeated: mark the holes with an awl and fasten the screws.

Close the door or drawer. Check the lock. If the corner clings to the tongue of the lock, it can be bent, or fitted with a file or a petal disk of a grinder.

To prevent the keys from getting lost, you can hang a plastic tag on them.
