The faucet installed in the bathroom may become worn out, deteriorate and require replacement. Usually, in such situations, they turn to plumbers, but you can change the mixer yourself.

The replacement process begins with the purchase of a new mixer. Bathroom faucets are sold assembled, usually they come with everything you need to connect. An exception may be a shower hose and a watering can - in some models they are not included in the delivery package.

Mixer dismantling

Replacing the mixer begins with the dismantling of the old. Be sure to shut off the water before starting work. Put rags in the bathtub - this will protect the enamel from chips in the event of a fall of the tap or its parts. It will not be superfluous to close the drain hole with a stopper - this will not allow you to lose small parts.

Dismantling the mixer will not require disassembly. It is enough to arm yourself with an adjustable wrench and unscrew the union nuts. Do not forget to hold the mixer body with your hand during operation, otherwise it may fall. Given the considerable mass, it is able to damage the tile, bath or even cause injury. Use caution.

Mixers are not attached to the pipes directly, but with the help of special adapters - eccentrics. Their geometric axis is offset from the axis of rotation. This allows them to fit the size of the mixer in the case where the distance between the pipes and nuts of the mixer does not match.

After removing the old tap, check the condition of the cam. They may be corroded and require replacement. If they are in good condition, you can use them when connecting a new mixer.

How to unscrew eccentrics? They have a square hole inside. You need to insert there a tool of a suitable shape, for example, pliers, and unscrew the eccentric counterclockwise. If the efforts of the hands are not enough, you can use the gas key as a lever.

Performing this work, you need to be very careful. If the eccentric is stuck, excessive force can break its body or even the water pipe. This will greatly complicate the situation. If the eccentrics do not lend themselves, it is better to call the plumbing.
