In order to choose an inexpensive sewing machine, you need to answer the following question: what exactly will it be used for? If it will be repairing clothes made of thick fabrics - such as jeans or a coat - choose a model of a sewing machine with a vertical swing shuttle.
You can also take a machine with a vertical swinging shuttle with adjustable foot pressure on the fabric, more for thin fabrics, less for thick ones. It is no secret that machines with such a shuttle device often fail when switching from setting thick fabrics to thin ones.
If you plan to decorate clothes by embroidering on a hoop, you can take a cheaper and lower-powered machine with a horizontal shuttle, but with a foot raising height of 10 mm (hoop width) and the ability to turn off the lower fabric conveyor (or darn plate in the kit).

If you plan to sew shirts, jackets (this is very popular among seamstresses), it doesn’t matter which shuttle - the main thing is to buy a machine complete with buttonhole stitching mode and buttonhole sewing foot and buttons with the ability to turn off the lower fabric conveyor (or darn plate in kit).
If you plan to do the simplest operations - such as sewing bedding, aprons, tacks, summer dresses, beach bags, bedding for stools, sewing curtains - then a sewing mini-machine with a horizontal shuttle will be enough. However, due to the fact that there is no sleeve platform, it will not be possible to process the shirt sleeve or to darn a woolen sock. Yes, you cannot sew shirts on a mini-machine!

If the backlight is ordinary rather than LED, the grease dries quickly and the mechanism of the sewing machine quickly becomes unusable. You can often replace it with a diode bulb, but you need to look for it and not everywhere they are of the same size and base as needed. If there is no cover in the kit, it means that the oil will dry quickly in the heat, and with high humidity in the autumn, it will rust. Then the car will last a maximum of 5 years. You can and even need to sew a case made of waterproof fabric, such as reinforced raincoat fabric, immediately after purchase.

In principle, any, even Chinese sewing machines are of good quality. And the reason why they do not want to sew, they lock the flywheel mechanism and therefore tear the thread - often not in the manufacturer, not in the shuttle - horizontal or vertical, not in the thread tension, not in thick material, not in thin threads, not in bad needles - and the fact that the machine needs to be lubricated more often. And not with engine oil, because it dries up, rolls up in spools and puts the flywheel out of action - but with grease with a WD-40 or ZR-40 spray gun.
Therefore, I immediately recommend buying a WD-40 spray lubricant in a store or automotive department and before each use, spray the machine along the path of the upper thread.

Also, the reason for the failure of the sewing machine is that dust from the threads is clogged in the vertical hook and before each use you need to remove the bobbin case from the hook and brush this dust from the teeth of the conveyor with a brush. This takes time and is really very inconvenient, why take a closer look at machines with a horizontal shuttle, where you do not need to lubricate the shuttle, clean and adjust the tension.

The next reason for looping the lower thread and jamming of the flywheel is the upper threading. Often the thread slips out of the upper thread tension adjuster. Therefore, it is necessary to take a closer look, which thread tensioner is completely round and closed or half-open, from which the thread will fall out all the time and sew something will become a feat?

So, in fact, the choice is between convenience and functionality: between horizontal and vertical swinging shuttle.
- The horizontal shuttle does not need to be lubricated.
- The threads, the dust does not clog every second, do not tear the thread, but how convenient it is to refuel - you do not need any bobbin case, you do not need to remove the sleeve! The trick is that you can refuel only strictly clockwise and only use metal bobbins.
- Due to the horizontal shuttle, the machine does not wobble, does not swing when sewing. She has a low speed, but it's just the perfect solution for straight lines!
- The horizontal shuttle gives silent operation of the sewing machine.
But one should not hope for a miracle - a machine with a horizontal shuttle does not sew thick fabrics, does not hem jeans - for this there are machines with a vertical swinging shuttle. Denim in 3 additions - and the needle bends!
Although, as an option (for working with thick fabrics) for machines with a horizontal shuttle, you can also buy a foot-upper conveyor.
