Today, the market has a huge selection of wiring to provide electricity to premises of any type and purpose. In order to choose a wire suitable for your needs, you need to know a few simple rules.

Aluminum or copper?

In order to provide the room with electricity, you can use aluminum or copper wire. Aluminum wiring is a good option for fans to save, because compared to copper, it costs much cheaper.

However, it’s quite reasonable to recall the ancient saying: “Cheap fish - soup over, ” since the aluminum wire, which was used all the time in Soviet times, has very serious shortcomings and loses to its competitor in many ways.

In order to opt for a copper wire, as a rule, two or three arguments are sufficient: copper has a much greater electrical conductivity, during installation this material does not break and does not oxidize during operation.

Electric wire cross section

The choice of wire cross-section (in this case, copper) is a very important point that determines how constant the lighting in the room will be and how stable all electrical appliances will work.

For most apartments and houses, the parameters for choosing the electrical wiring section are the same and look like this:

- for sockets - a wire with a cross section of 2.5 mm²;

- for indoor lighting - wire with a cross section of 1.5 mm²;

- for electric stoves, ovens, electric hobs - wire with a cross section of 4-6 mm².

Important: if the wiring is carried out in an old house where a grounding conductor is not provided, then it is best to use a wire consisting of three cores.
