During repairs, it is often necessary to install new or relocate old outlets. To do this, make a hole in the wall. You can accomplish this task with the help of several types of power tools.
Sockets, switches and other wiring devices are mounted in special plastic boxes - socket boxes. To install them, you need to make a recess in the wall, corresponding to their size. The installation box should not protrude beyond the wall surface, otherwise you will not be able to install the outlet without a gap.
Hammering
Convenience and speed of work depends on the material of the wall. This affects the choice of instrument. When working with soft, pliable materials, you can do with a low-power punch or even a drill. Plaster, aerated concrete and some types of bricks are easily amenable to a drill.
If your punch tool kit is limited to a set of drills, simply circle the socket with a pencil and drill holes along this line. Make them as often as possible and closer to each other. After that, using a drill, break off the pieces from the inside of the circle. This is convenient to do by directing the drill at an angle to the wall.
If you want to simplify the task, you can use the nozzle on the hammer drill in the form of a chisel. Insert it into the cartridge, turn on the impact mode and hollow out the circle outlined by the drilled holes. Soft materials break off quite easily.
For shtrobleniya under sockets there are special devices that greatly facilitate the work. These are metal crowns with victorious soldering. They are designed to work with rotary hammers. Do not try to use crowns with electric drills - their power is insufficient and you can just burn the tool.
Using such a snap is simple. Insert the shank into the chuck until it clicks. Switch the rotary hammer to hammer drilling mode. Set the end of the drill located in the crown to the center of the marked circle and press the power button. Do not apply excessive pressure to the tool - feed must be smooth. Try not to deviate from the horizontal axis, otherwise it will be more difficult to drill.
In some cases, the drilled core breaks off the wall and remains in the crown - this is the best option. You will have to bring down the remnants and install the socket. But quite often this piece of wall needs to be hollowed out. Use a hammer drill with a drill or chisel, chipping pieces inside the circle.
When making holes in the walls, consider their thickness. For example, plaster boards and a brick laid on a rib are quite thin. They are easy to drill through. If a fine finish has already been made on the other side of such a wall, you will need to be careful.
