Just some 20 years ago, darn was an ordinary and familiar occupation. Modern people sometimes not without reason believe that it is easier to buy a new one than repair an old one. But still it happens that the thing is worn out, and throwing it away is a pity. A neat darning may well extend the life of socks, connected by a beloved grandmother or other thing, dear to the heart.

Darn made knitted or knitted items that are made by a set of loops. Traditionally darn heels on woolen socks, which usually wear out much faster than the rest of the product. You can darn cloth, but only if the gap is not through and the threads of the product are partially preserved (in place of scuffs).

In other cases, it is better to impose a patch.

Materials for work

To start darn, you need to cook everything you need for this process.

1. Threads. It is better to select darning threads similar in color and texture to the material from which the thing is made: then it will not be so evident that the clothes are repaired. In yarn stores special threads are sold, which are called “darn”. They are inexpensive, have different colors, and you can try to choose the most suitable. However, you can use other yarn, the main thing is that it does not differ too much from the one from which the thing is made. So, wool products should not be darned with cotton threads and vice versa.

2. A thick needle. You can take a special needle, which is called a dowel, but if it is not there, any thick needle with an eye large enough to thread a darn into it will do.

3. Item for stretching the product. To make the darning neat, the product must be stretched on a spherical surface - so the edges of the hole that you need to darn will not be pulled together, and it will be easier for the craftswoman to "catch" the naughty runaway loops. In needlework stores, you can purchase special devices for this, but if this was not at hand, a children's toy and even an ordinary incandescent bulb will do. The main thing is that the thing should have an even hemispherical surface in size no less than the diameter of the gap.

There are such types of darnings as machine and art. This article discusses the easiest way to darn by hand.
