Additional purification of drinking water entering apartments and private houses is an urgent need, since the quality of this water does not always meet sanitary and hygienic standards. Mechanical filters are a simple, reliable and affordable way to get rid of impurities and suspensions contained in such water.

1

Removable cartridges are installed in filters for water of any type: flowing and reverse osmosis, wall and pitcher. They should be changed regularly, but how often it depends on many reasons, first of all, of course, on how much clean water enters the filter through pipes. The cartridge can be made of ion exchange resins, activated carbon, polypropylene and even tightly wound string. Replace the cartridge by force and by a lay person.

2

There are several reasons for changing the cartridge. Firstly, a clogged cartridge slows down the water treatment process. Secondly, the quality of treatment is significantly reduced, and, therefore, the quality of drinking water is also reduced due to the high content of suspensions. Thirdly, a “clogged” filter becomes not only useless, but also represents a danger due to the dirt that accumulates in the filter flask. And finally, if it is a filter operating on the principle of reverse osmosis, its important element - the membrane, can be damaged.

3

Wall-mounted and pitcher-type filters are usually used in apartments and houses with centralized water supply, into which water flows already pre-treated. Since the cartridge externally does not change very much during operation, filter manufacturers supply them with a device on which the replacement date can be set. How often you should change the cartridge, it is written in the instructions for it, usually the life of such a cartridge is from 30 to 60 days and depends on how many liters of cleaning it is designed for. An indicator of the need to replace the cartridge can be the appearance of scale in the teapot or a foreign taste that has appeared near the water.

4

Flow filters are often installed in houses with autonomous water supply, in which water comes directly from the well or from a well located next to the house. Usually, the flasks of such filters are transparent and you can see for yourself how dirty the cartridge is. Even with good water quality, cartridges in flow filters should be replaced at least once every 2-3 months, and a reverse osmosis membrane should be replaced at least once every 2-3 years.

5

In the case when several stages of filters are installed in the system, the one that carries out the primary cleaning should be changed more often. Typically, cartridges made of polypropylene are used for filtration in the first stage, and activated carbon in the subsequent stages. The cartridge of the first stage should be changed at least once every 2 months, the second and third - once every six months.
